CARMEN ROTILIO
From Corporate Explorer to Leadership Architect
I spent 20 years in the corporate world, and it gave me extraordinary gifts. I travelled across four continents and worked in dozens of countries throughout Europe, Asia, Africa and the USA. I grew immensely – both as a person and as a professional. It was a fascinating, formative chapter of my life.
But not everyone had that experience. And that is what started to weigh on me.
I watched talented colleagues get chewed up by the system. I saw people enter with spark and leave diminished. I deeply respect what large organisations can achieve – and at the same time, we all know the human cost when leadership gets it wrong.
What haunted me most was not just witnessing it – it was the fear of becoming one of them without realising it. I needed to stick my head outside, to reconnect with the world beyond corporate walls.
So, while still working full-time, I enrolled in Sociology at the University of Urbino. Studying became my bridge back to fresh thinking, to dreaming again, to remembering that work could be different.
That is when I discovered coaching. And in it, I saw the possibility of creating workplaces where people do not just survive – they thrive.

What Frustrates Me Most About Corporate Leadership Today
Today’s younger generations – the workforce of both the present and the future – expect both meaningful work and fair rewards. They want quality of life, strong relationships and purpose alongside career growth and financial recognition. Organisations that fail to challenge their status quo and adapt to this reality are losing the war for talent.
And this is no longer just an HR issue.
It directly impacts retention, engagement and long-term performance.
Companies that do not create environments where people can grow, contribute and preserve their humanity will not remain competitive in the years ahead.
What Frustrates Me Most About Corporate Leadership Today
